Maybe you can base it off something like Pleasantville where the kids get sent into a 50's based TV show and change everything. Or you can do a time warp and have your 'modern' kids go back in time ala "Back to the Future" or it can be one kids dream... there are tons of things you can do.

How about collaberating with another student or two over pizza and soda? Brainstorming is always good, not to mention more fun with friends.

good luck!

Why not create something that parodies the kind of movie Elvis used to make?

They all had essentially the same plot.

Tough, but kind, guy is working in some menial job.

There is an opportunity for him to sing a bunch of times.

He meets an attractive woman.

He sings to her.

Somebody hears him singing and asks him to sing at some sort of event where he'll be the outsider.

Other people from that event try to get in his way.

He sings and wins everyone over.

Lots of singing and Elvis wins.

You can set this story anywhere, give the characters any occupation, and pick any sort of big deal ending location you can think of.

Easy and you can use Elvis songs - provided you get the rights to them, of course.

Maybe you could write a play about President Dwight D. Eisenhower having a personal debate with himself in the Oval Office about the caution of military build up.
A warning in his farewell speech. The irony is that he was the Allied Supreme Commander in Europe during WWII. Secondly, on the news tonight President Bush is asking for a multi BILLION dollar financing in Iraq.

Before he left office in January 1961, for his farm in Gettysburg,

he urged the necessity of maintaining an adequate military strength, but cautioned that vast, long-continued military expenditures could breed potential dangers to our way of life.

He concluded with a prayer for peace "in the goodness of time." Both themes remained timely and urgent when he died, after a long illness, on March 28, 1969.

Send me an E-mail on what you think.
I could come up with more on the topic.

Try not to do anything too complicated... The easiest thing would be this... maybe you can just do a review type show. Pick a bunch of songs from some era and then write a plot around them, tying the songs together.

Check out AIN'T MISBEHAVIN', SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE or any of the FORBIDDEN BROADWAYS ....for examples.

Do something well known, like GREASE. There are lots of roles so no one will feel left out, lots of singing and it is upbeat and lively.

Or the Sound of Music, for the same reasons as GREASE.
