47 million Americans or almost 16% of the nation is without any form of health covearge. Another 75 million are estimated to have coverage in name only.
A very significant portion of the uninsured are minor children who are hardly in a postion to provide coverage for themselves.
The Insurance scandle is cited by the World Health Organization as a principal contributor to the fact that Amerians are the 36th healthiest people on earth, Behind every other industralized economy.
The insurance companies skim off the clients that are good business risks for them. Which means that the uninsured, when ill, go to emergency rooms. The bill for the emergency room visit is eventually covered by the state or municipality which drives up property taxes. Clearly the present system, which is socalized medicine at is worst, is not viable.
Big insurance is universally hated. Everyone has a horror story about their HMO. But congress does nothing because they rely on big insurace to foot the bills for political campains to keep them in power.
The only ones who get hurt are the citizens of the United States. That's because when all is said and done, that group, you and me, have absolutely no representation inside the beltway, not on the left side of the aisle and certainly not on the right.

Funny thing is that roughly 1/3 of these are people who are eligible for government insurance but havent signed up. Many are like I used to be, I made enough that I could easily afford doctors visits which even if I went every mth would be less than a 10th of my premium so I went without insurance and many more are in transition meaning they had insurance recently and will again soon but dont right now. Very few are in a long term situation and dont qualify for government assistance, This is all important to telling the whole story so that any "reform" addresses reality not fiction

Ahh, maybe you need to reread the study done.
It didn't say more americans,
It said more people living in america.
It included 16 million illegal immigrants.
But lets not forget, the highest percentage of uninsured Americans ever recorded, by in 1998, when you know who was president.
When 16.3% of americans did not have health insurance, up from 12.9% , when you know who was elected.
Now do you really care if illegal immigrants, illegally in america, get have health insurance ??
I certainly don't.

Oh --just watch even today schemes are in the works to allow employers to have insurance carriers that require much higher premiums, so much so that the workers will drop insurance. This is a plan. To help big buisness, companies will have less going out to workers health care coverage and Workers will be forced to carry their own coverage or none. Medicare patients must pay for their own Oxygen equiptment after 36 months or it's taken away, that would force them to move into Nursing homes and give their entire Social Security over to the home so they can live. Wake up America much is afoot. You like to be sarcastic and say everyone like Roger Moore is full of crap, however in the next few years you will see your folks in this position. We need a committed effort for Health Care for every American we pay enough taxes to accomplish this and all other 1st world countries have it!!

George can't be blamed for everything. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of his but the pu**y Democrats took control of Congress and much to the dismay of many, haven't done much. Frankly, both parties can go suck an egg.
It's time for a revolution in this country, and it needs to start from the bottom up. We need blue collar and working class people in Congress. We need people to represent We the people not We the corporations.
We employ them. They work for We the people and it's about friggin time that WE THE PEOPLE stand up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The president's only domestic agenda since he took office has been to build a 700 mile long fence along the Mexican-U.S. border. I will not condemn Mr. Bush--I happen to be a liberal democrat--for being consumed by the War on Terror during his two terms in office, however, his decision to go to war with Iraq was misguided and costly. He could have made America stronger by providing universal health care so that if we ever do get attacked by terrorists again nobody will have to be turned away from a hospital because an HMO doesn't want to pay to have their arm reattached.

It is an individuals fault themselves if they are uninsured, not the president, I don't care who it is, a Republican, or a Democrat. That includes medical, and car insurance.
It is not the responsibility of the government to take care of the American people, it is ours, as long as we want to be free to choose.
We are America, the land of the free, not Russia, the land of the controlled.
By what you're saying, you agree with Universal Health-Care, where you don't get the right to choose your own (second-rate) doctor, or when to see them. I don't. I want to choose my physician, and see a first rate doctor, and when the heck to see them!

I'm proud of the fact that we have enough wisdom not to break our health care industry, in order to provide it free for everyone who is without it. People need to stand up and accept responsibility for their own needs. This isn't a welfare state, and frankly, I'm real tired of paying for all the illegals who could care less whether they have health insurance because they know that hospitals will not turn them away, in an emergency.
This isn't something the Republicans created, it's been going on for years. That number of 47 million could be cut in half if we got rid of all the illegal immigrants in the US. Now that is part of the solution !
