What once meant very restricted courting, has now become a sexual position.
An example is the classic song: "By the Light of the silvery moon" where one phrase is "with my honey I'll spoon."---To engage in amorous behavior, such as kissing.
I still prefer the old version as moon, spoon, June, tune and honeymoon were constants in the "Pop" music of many of the Broadway musicals during there romantic heyday.

Feeding each other from the Love Spoons, intricately carved spoons lovers gave each other years ago and fed each other from. Called spooning. Later on petting,,then well you know how it all evolved.

my boyfriend and I tried figuring this one out too. we got that its like when two people are laying together and your bodies like fit together. I'm not sure if you understand what I'm trying to say, not quite sure how to say it.
