You need to look at it this way. They are a store, and are in business to make a profit. They are not concerned with the animals, like a pet owner is. If animals are ill they are put in a back room to either die or get well, sometimes they are treated, but for the most part they are not.

Treating illness cost money. They are not going to treat a $10 animal, and spend more than the animal is worth, otherwise if they sell it they will lose money. It is easier to just purchase more hamsters/gerbils/etc and write off the death as a loss.

It really is not the fault of the kids who work their, corporate makes policy and the people that work their have to follow it. Their hands for the most part are tied.

In my opinion petco is cruel. I used to know people that worked there. They said sick animals were placed in the back room, and either not treated at all, or treated with whatever was in the store. I used to work in a pet store myself(not petco), but it was basically the same. Sick animals were placed in the back(so customers couldn't see them) If they died they were written off.

yes,ive had many bad expirences with petco first off, they do not have a vet to check out their stock of animals before theyre to be sold, ive heard that theres a huge protest going on ,on the west coast people are protesting against petcos treatment of animals, they take their sick animals and stick them in their stores meat locker to die! ive bought 5 or 6 guinea pigs at a petco store near me and hasd to mreturn them because they were either sick or lame.i swore that id never go there again,i even taken my petco card and cut it up into little pieces and mailed it to that store.

I do know a lot of them don't know how to treat their ferrets--they get them too young and don't have clean food bowls, soft food ready or full water bottles (the ferret groups check the stores out every month trying to get them to take better care of the ferrets).

We don't have one near me so I can't speak from personal experience.

If they are anything like PetSmart- no they arent. we treat all of our animals very well, even sending the little mice to the vet and paying rediculous bills to get them well.

i dont know. cause a ladys dog got her dogs tail almost cut off. and it was spraying blood and they didnt even care. most of the people just go there to get paid and could care less about animals. i think is very wrong.

I totally believe that, that is why I shop at Pet smart and I like how they treat my pets when they come into the store with me.
