Well yes....but they say its simply a coincidence
Led Zeppelin has for the most part ignored such claims; for years the only comment came from Swan Song Records which issued the statement: "Our turntables only play in one direction—forwards". Zeppelin producer Eddie Kramer confirmed this, calling the allegations "totally and utterly ridiculous. Why would they want to spend so much studio time doing something so dumb?" Robert Plant expressed frustration with the accusations in an interview: "To me it's very sad, because 'Stairway to Heaven' was written with every best intention, and as far as reversing tapes and putting messages on the end, that's not my idea of making music."

The controversy originated from a prominent Baptist, who, in 1982, preached on the radio that "Stairway to Heaven" contained subliminal backward messages. This theory was later primarily advanced by Michael Mills, Jacob Aranza, and Jeff Godwin, who offered detailed analyses of the hidden meanings of both the "backwards" and actual lyrics. In 1982, the Consumer Protection and Toxic Materials Committee of the California State Assembly held a hearing on backmasking in popular music, during which "Stairway to Heaven" was played backwards.[21] William Yarroll, a self-identified neuroscientist, claimed that "Stairway to Heaven," when played backward, contains a similar message: "I sing because I live with Satan. The Lord turns me off — there's no escaping it. Here's to my sweet Satan, whose power is Satan. He will give you 666. I live for Satan.[2] Other versions of the alleged message include "Here's to my sweet Satan, no other made a path. For it makes me sad. Whose power is Satan? Oh, my number, 666", and "Oh, here's to my sweet Satan. The One whose little path has made me sad. Whose power is Satan? Oh, my number, 666".

I think it's ridiculous, I listened to it many times and those words when played backward really doesn't sounds like Satan or 666 unless you read those rewritten lyrics simultaneously and try to fit them into the backward being played, try to do an experiment with several people without them reading the lyrics of the so-called backward messages and write down what they hear then you will get different answers or none at all.

Back in the early 80's rite when cable was getting huge I was flipping channels one nite & came across this preacher. He was a young guy & he was suppose to relate to young people because of it. I think his name was Pastor Gary. He had dark curly brown hair & a mustache. And he would just rail against Stairway To Heaven. He would play it backwards & then say did you hear it?? This song is evil people!!!
I was high when I saw this so of course I got out my copy of the album & slapped it on the turntable & tried it out just using my finger to turn it backwards. I heard nothing. Nothing at all!! I then grabbed my half a joint put some flame to it, got the song to playing forward as it was intended to be & concluded "this guys an idiot!!"
Who the hell wants to listen to music backwards anyways??
There's a lady who's sure.....

I've listened to Stairway to Heaven backwards, and when somebody told me what it was supposedly saying, I went, yeah, it does kind of sound like that. But I never would have noticed if someone hadn't pointed out. So I honestly don't think it was an intentional thing.

Supposedly, in "Stairway To Heaven", there's also the line "here's to my sweet Satan" backwards in the vocals just before the guitar solo kicks in (when played normally).

No, none of that is true. Crazy fundamentalist preachers in the 1970s invented that rumor. I'm surprised it's still going around.

supposedly in stairway to heaven.
i heard that many bands have experimented with these subliminal message things, even though they won't admit it.
sooo it might have been written that way purposely.
i don't think it's a coincidence.
