I'm all about success for any artist who puts in the work to get to where they are. There's nothing wrong with appealing to a mainstream audience, because that's the only way to get big. I think what's most important is that the artists don't change when they get money, and they don't allow themselves to be pimped by the industry. I've always admired Nirvana, because they became superstars, but they refused to become corporate whores. Same with bands like U2, REM, etc. They don't make music to generate hits and sell albums, but because it's the music they want to make.

I remember back in the 80s, when U2 and REM were more of a cult band, and also the same with the Grateful Dead, when they had a hit, they're "faithful" fans didn't like them anymore, saying they had sold out. But if you listen to the music, the music was the same as it had always been. So yeah, there is a lot of selfishness in it, you know, sort of like it's my band and I'm the only one who knows about it. Having said that, there are a lot of bands who change once they have a hit, and start writing what they think will be a hit.

I understand quite well how you feel, but personally I think it 's great when a lot of people like the same band I do. It's like saying: ok, calm down, you're not the only fan in the world who likes them, many other guys love them too... I think it's cool.

Humm, It kind of does. Like I hate how the whole hardcore scene is getting all mainstream now. And you see all these little kids running around saying they've always been a fan of so and so...
I miss a few years ago when there was no line to get into shows.

A little, but not as much as when a band sells its music for advertising. Might not disturb some people, but for most of the bands I like, it means enough members have died for heirs to auction off the rights.

I'm more commonly completely satisfied for them- the item that could annoy me is while wealthy bandwagon enthusiasts who've simplest heard one music through them flip up at their concert events. Or if the band indicators as much as a mainstream label and begins making crappy track for the loads/cash

Yea, I've loved Fall Out Boy since "Grand Theft Autumn" came out. The same thing happened to me and my brother with Greenday. But, fortunately I still have the Chiodos to myself!

ha, im used to that, i listen to a lot of unknown music. but i dont let it bother me when they get big and people say stuff like "you only like them because they are popular" because i dont care if people dont believe that i liked a band before they were big. All i have to say is good for them for making some serious dough.

not really.... that's like saying that everyone who makes it big is a sellout, but then you think about it and THATS THE POINT OF BEING IN A BAND! why on earth would you be angry because they managed to make it in such a difficult industry. seriously people. not to mention, fall out boy sucks and, having met them when they came to our town (so not on purpose. they were in our mall), their complete a**holes.

Uhh nope it usually doesn't bother me untill people start being really mean to them. I'm a HUGE mcr fan and it only bothers me when people give them crap and stuff. But if a lot of other people like them thats ok.
