A couple of my top choice colleges like Harvard and Gerogetown don't offer communications as a major so can I major in something a little off-track and become what i want to become?

Major in Journalism with a minor in Political Science or History. With a professionally developed portfolio from the college newspaper, hard-work, and willingness to start at the bottom, you'll have a much better chance at success. Journalism (print and/or broadcast) will help develop and hone both your writing and speaking skills.

And above all else, pick a few safety schools and don't rely solely on Harvard or Georgetown. While excellent colleges, their admission rates are remarkably low and thus incredibly competitive. State universities can be and are often better in terms of an education than an elite school like Harvard. Your education ultimately is what you put into it and get out of it and less about the name on your degree.

I think that would be a great choice, as long as you also hone your speaking skills along the way.
