Unless you are trying to induce labor, I wouldn't do this. And even if you are trying to induce labor I would really use caution with this method and consult a care provider.
You would get colostrum in small amounts but of course you will have enough colostrum for the baby when he comes.

I was told not to, because you want the baby to have the colostrum when they are born, which comes in before the milk. If you pump your milk will come in and the colostrum will be gone.

No why would you want to waste the best part the baby can have? Just starting out pumping before delivery can bring on labor I've always heard you shouldn't do that. That's why nipple stims are good to bring on labor too..

I didn't actually USE it, I just put it on my breast over my shirt and pumped a couple of times to see what it was like. I was actually too afraid to use it properly.

your milk wont come in till after the baby is born, what is in there is colostrum which you do not want to get rid of, the baby thrives on it when it is born. why would you want to anyway? it won't get rid of the swelling if that is what you are worried about

Why would you do that?!?!?!?!
You don't have milk yet. You do have colostrum, but not enough to express.
