I know that I am not supposed to add ANY fertilizer, which i understand and respect, but this is really the simplest solution I could find. On the original VFT package it said to transplant using soil "similar to african violet mix" would it still be ok to use?

NO, no fertilizer at all. No nutrients for carnivorous plants. The only thing you need to plant them in is 1/2 perlite and 1/2 peat moss or your plants will die. They get all the nourishment they need from the insects they eat. What you can use that is related to the African Violet is the double pot. The outer pot holds water and the porous inner pot absorbs the water. VFTs are bog plants and love to keep moist and humid. Oh, yea, make sure you only use distilled, rain, or aged tap water when watering your VFTs. Chlorine will kill them.

Here is a video all about transplanting carnivorous plants. It has just about everything you need to know about your VFT.

Look on the home and Garden(HGTV) website and go to this website and you can look up additional info. on your venus fly trap.http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/gl_plants_other/article/0,,HGTV_3609_4275008,00.html
I'm sure the soil you are using is fine. Or use this website.

I watched the Gardening By the yard show the other day and it had VFT's on the show and it said to put pete moss on the bottom of your pot, then layer pearlite with some soil on top of the moss. I have a VFT at home too. But I haven't tried to re- pot mine yet. I would worry that have fertilizer in your potting mix might be too strong for the plant, but you could definitely try it. But I hope these websites help you.

http://www.cobraplant.com/venus-flytrap.html Check out this link. Most of the time the growing instructions are totally wrong on a plant that comes from a big box store. The dudes at Sarracenia Northwest really know their stuff.
