Controlling personalities only control people who allow themselves to be controlled.

There are a lot of reasons for a person to be controlling. It could be how they were raised, relationships they've seen that they thought were successful. And some just the need to be the boss.
Keep in mind this can be men or women. I have an aunt that rules her house with an iron fist and makes Attila the Hun look like Little Bo Peep.

Like anyone...it's a powertrip.

I think people who have to be in control of another human being or even an animal have serious self-esteem issues.
Not to mention I think that since their parents or any adult figure(s) in their life never treated them the way they wanted to be treated, they feel some sick obligation to mistreat another human (or animal). So they can get some weird revenge in their own mind, or so they can make someone else feel the pain the feel or felt.

I think they're depressed, low self-esteem, angry...and so much more.

And sometimes kids grow up and witness their mom or dad controlling the other parent, thus they think that is the way adults are supposed to act towards each other. So it follows them throughout their life, and there are even some parents who will tell their kids that controlling another person is RIGHT and that's what you have to do to "keep them in line" or to make them listen to you. So essentially some parents encourage abusive and controlling behavior to their kids, leaving the kids absolutely brainwashed and unable to think for themselves. Which is why they're so hell bent that what they're doing isn't wrong.

A hormone called testosterone causes men to be aggressive and controlling. It is natures way of making the male compete and control all possible to ensure survival of the most fit genes.

Hope this helps.

Men are trained from an early age to be in control, master and govern everything because it will be their fault if anything goes wrong. How terrifying and impossible, frankly, but it's such a part of growing up that most men can't learn to let go and trust other people, even bosses, spouses, or other people who should merit trust and confidence.

Looking back on my life. I think men are controlling when we feel insecure about things in our life and its our way of coping or handling things. We don't like to talk or feel emotions so its easier to fall into that controlling A** hole person that we do.

Men tend to be controlling when they are insecure about themselves and also I think it has a lot to do about their beliefs.

Most controlling men believe that they are superior to women and that women are not capable of being responsible and independent.

Personally I think it has alot to do with the environment they were raised in. If they grew up with a controlling father, then they may go on to model their father's behavior. On the other hand, if a child grows up in a completely chaotic atmosphere where there are no boundaries, they may end up being a controlling adult to overcompensate.
