No, it won't work buy a router, they won't allow you two modems at the same cable line. I bought a new modem to replace the modem they gave me, even that did not work until I called them and they set it on their side.

You only need a router. The technology is the same worldwide, You can check with your provider but your going to find they are higher in price, and many don't like to give out much info unless you deal with them.
All the step by step instructions come with any router you choose.
