Hate to lose 5 points but is anyone else sick of the people of New Orleans blaming thier plight?

On President Bush and giving The Mayor, the Govenor and 50 years of political hacks a free wash of all responsibility? Yes, the federal government could have done more and responded faster, but the failing levees and inability to evacuate the city completely rests on a local and state level. I just hope they get all the help they need before another Hurricane hits.

The town is below sea level?????? Dee Dee Dee. Like who ever said that it was not going to flood was brain dead. People have no right to rely on the government for housing, food, medical treatment, electrical service, air conditioning. water, sewer, Christmas treats, free Easter Eggs, or a Thanksgiving pumpkin. Before Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and Alabama, residents of the area either knew or were told at one time that a Hurricane could come by and clobber the city that they lived and it was your responsibility to get out of the way or face the consequences.

Two years after Hurricane Katrina, a lot of residential areas have not been rebuilt. I believe that the Government has done everything that they can but the citizens expect that government going to assist out and when they don't. Citizens are complaining.

I believe that is the citizens’ responsibility to take responsibility to rebuild their communities. Government at the Federal, State, County, and Local Level has done their part to the best of their ability but citizens are not doing their pat. Citizens are responsible for informing government about what they need because government cannot do everything necessary 24 hours a day.

There is a show I have watched on The Weather Channel called It Could Happen Tomorrow about scenarios of weather that can occur in other cities. Two episodes I have seen were about a Hurricane hitting New York City and a Earthquake striking San Francisco. Most citizens in NYC and San Francisco have no plan of action if a disaster occurs and The Weather Channel has said that you need to have enough food and supplies ready for up to 72 hours or more because assistance might not be available right away.

I believe government has done their part but citizens are not doing theirs. Citizens need to rise up and realize that it is their responsibility talk to the government and tell them what they need. Government cannot help citizens unless the citizens speak up and stand up for what they believe in.

It is a shame what happened there but its time to get down to business and do something to help yourselves. And why are they spending billions to rebuild a city below sea level?

Other cities have had major problem and they have pulled together to solve them. New Orleans has had a rich history of graft, corruption, and crime (it has regained its title of murder capitol of America). Its rulers are so used to blaming others for its problems and then skimming off a portion of any federal aid in the past that they only knows how to blame and steal. Of course, Air America provides the excuses that the missing money went for the initial rescues.
