Prayers, protests and a lingering disgust with the government's response to Hurricane Katrina marked the disaster's second anniversary Wednesday, with a Presidential visit doing little to mollify those still displaced by the storm.

Clarence Russ, 64, took a dim view of politicians' promises as he tried to put the finishing touches on his repaired home in the city's devastated Lower 9th Ward.

"There was supposed to be all this money, but where'd it go? None of us got any," said Russ, whose house was the only restored home on an otherwise desolate block.

▼▼ Didn't the government send millions of dollars? Or am I wrong on this, what did they do with this money? So am I mistaken, if a fire, or flood damages my home, I can call the President and he will rebuild it for free? What about us Californians who live with earthquakes, will the government rebuild our homes and businesses for free also? Why isn't the City responsible for helping their own? I am sorry, I don't get it.

And yes, I feel very bad for what they all went through it was absolutely horrible, and sad. It is not that I don't have compassion, but are they blaming the wrong person for not helping them?

I'm seriously surprised they didn't run Bush out of New Orleans. They did get several million dollars, but are you aware of the cost of rebuilding the infrastructure of a city that size? And other states that declare a state of emergency because of a natural disaster get aid from the Federal Government. When I lived in Florida and Jeb Bush was governor. We had no problem in getting lots of money to help hurricane victims. If only he could have been the governor of Louisiana at the time of Katrina there would be no problem. It would have helped if the governor of Louisiana had just been a Democrat. Those are just the facts. It's politics.

There is enough blame to go around. Louisiana's governor, mayor Nagen, and President Bush dropped the ball on this one. Millions if not billions are missing, that was supposed to see New Orleans rebuilt. the taxpayer will never see it again. From what I hear most of the rebuilding effort came from the private sector. God help us. :-)))

Yes, you Californians who live in earthquake zones have received billions of dollars over the years from the federal government to rebuild. Every time an earthquake hits, and it's declared a federal disaster area, you get federal assistance. You think your city has the resources to handle something this big on their own?

Keep dreaming.

Its the government that we should all be mad at. They can go over to Iraq and where ever and blow it up and then turn around and rebuild it. They can go give food to people that don't have any overseas. They can promise them the world and yet here we are. There are people here that don't have anything to eat. There are people here that don't have a home or any of the basic necessities that we take for granted. What is wrong with this picture. Our government is to busy worrying about if this place likes us or that place to go outside there homes or even the white house to look at the people that need things here. Everyone needs to wake up this country isn't by the people for the people anymore. Its for everyone else. It almost seems before to long just to have our basic needs met we are going to have to go to another country. We the people need to take back control of our country. Its to the point were I would rather trust the person down the street who has nothing to make decisions rather than the current leadership that we have. We need to take our country back before we don't have a country.
