I'm a World War II collector, and the possibility of owning a period vehicle has only recently come to mind. I know there are aircraft bone yards in Arizona, and you can buy the planes (however damaged they may be). But where would you go to buy a tank, or a Howitzer, or something?

You might check with Ft. Knox they had a bunch of them out there some time ago. They have an armored training facility. The cannon would have to be removed and any other weapons. There are guys that have them though.

good luck.

Run an ad and see if a private owner would like to sell his Sherman. That is about the nly way yu will get one. Shermans have not been used for 40 years---I think they melted then and made Toyotas...If you can find the salvage yard of junk --- Fed gove may still have one...

You could probably buy one. I saw a place where they keep many Sherman tanks on the History channel. The cost of purchasing and restoring one of these Sherman's will be very expensive though.
