Yes and allot of it is the youth of today who have no regard or respect let alone the meaning of the word respect and take matters into their own hands knowing full well that the police and legal system is or has little power to deal with them in accordance with their crimes.

If anybody had told me twenty years ago that we'd have reached the state where one child after another was going to be murdered and where large numbers of children consider knives and guns to be part of their normal dress code I'd have laughed at them.
Scarcely a day goes by without some act of mindless thuggery being plastered across the headlines. Even looking at somebody can, in the eyes of some maniacs, be grounds for murder because the victim "didn't show enough respect".
If and when they are apprehended what happens, some bewigged geriatric masquerading as a judge gives them a few hours community service because they admitted the offence or, if they are imprisoned, they get out 3 or 4 years later having been released for "good behaviour".

Absolutely, In the small town that I live in there are always people breaking into this and robbing that. A lot of the problems here are drugs which makes other problems increase. Also the big problem here is a lack of jobs there are so many people getting laid off that sometimes they have no choice in there minds. Remember the days when you could leave your home and cars unlocked and people knew that it wasn't theirs so they shouldn't go near it. Unfortunately this is only a small taste of what is to come. Things are going to get much worse so hang on tight.

Congratulations on the forthcoming birth.
You've got nothing to be worried about. When people tell me that they are worried about crime, I always ask them how many people they know who have been seriously affected by crime; I'm still waiting for someone to tell me that they know someone who has.
Crime has always been with us and always will be. It suits some people to look back in the past and say that things were always better in some mythical idyll. Take binge drinking. Its nothing new, that is part of the reason that it is not something we in the UK are going to solve easily. Don't believe me? Take a look at Hogarth's Gin Lane:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gin_Lane
He painted that in 1751. And never mind alcopops, look at the damage done by gin:

As someone points out above, if you want a better world to live in, you have to work for it. That does not mean taking on the world, but it does mean taking on your little row of houses, your street maybe, even some of the issues of your council perhaps. It means getting involved in your community and fighting for the change that you want. This site has more its fair share of whingers (not you) who complain about Blair, immigration, Europe, asylum seekers, but how many of them do anything but whinge amongst their circle of friends and YA.
Never despair, the world is a good place and there are plenty of good people in it.

Meh, it is what you make it.
Plenty of people (And I'm not saying this is you at all) work all day in a call centre or similar job, come home and watch tv, play no part in their local community and then complain about anti-social behaviour.
We are all responsible to keep a look out and make sure things are ok. These are our communities, this is our country.

It is getting worse. And it all starts with people having children without being married first.
You are part of the problem cause i bet you are not really committed to your partner or child and will within 5 years be shacked up somewhere else.

This country is definitely getting much worse. I have 2 sons (as well as 2 daughters) and for them we are seriously thinking of emigrating in the very near future.

Its a war zone. Blame the Government. If they think it is right to send troops into another country and kill thousands then people are going to be immune to violence and it will increase accordingly
Pictures of troops shooting people and jets bombing them all day and night does not help quell violence. So its the fault of Blair, Brown and Cameron for promoting this violence and condoning it. And the media for promoting it.
Any society that engages in pointless wars become a violent society
