Melanie Sloan, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, expressed surprise that Sen. Larry Craig has been forced to
relinquish his committee assignments in light of this week's revelations that he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in connection with an attempted sexual encounter with an undercover officer in a Minneapolis airport restroom.
"Senator Ted Stevens maintains his position on the Appropriations Committee despite being the subject of a major criminal investigation, including an FBI raid on his Alaska home and Senator David Vitter maintains his assignments despite admitting to the crime of soliciting a prostitute."
Sloan continued, "A disorderly conduct plea requires a member to give up his committee assignment, but a full-fledged bribery investigation does not. Apparently, in the view of the Republican conference there is almost nothing more serious than a member attempting to engage in gay sex."
"For consistency's sake, Senators Stevens and Vitter should both be forced to give up their committee assignments as well."

It is if he doesn't quit stalling.
He may never experience the flush of victory again if he can't get a handle on this.
But the real question is will the boys in Boise foot the bill again now that Craig comes with so much baggage?
My son says he and all the other troops in Iraq are just SO proud to be fighting to finance neocon values. Everything they stand for. Stand with a wide stance for...

Senator Craig may not resign, because 1. he's famously stubborn and 2. he's already been defanged of most power (his committee posts). Whether he resigns or not, I highly doubt he will run for re-election next year; Idaho's RNC won't have it, and no current Republican in congress (or anywhere) will campaign for him.
What's sad is that while his offense is deplorable mainly for its hypocrisy and his desire to keep it quiet, Senator Vitter may have committed a more serious crime by soliciting prostitution, and he seems to be getting off scot-free.

Seems so..
Like children, politics can be cruel.
Look at what the GOP did to Bill
Clinton, eight years ago.
And what the Dems did to Richard
Nixon over the Water Gate wire tap.
And the biggest shame of all?
It's this mud slinging that scares off
a lot of really qualified candidates.

IF "larry craig" HAD a "good name" he wouldn't have been cruising for gay sex in an airport men's room.

The one I feel sorry for is his wife. Want to bet that his marriage is headed the same place as his political carrer?
BTW--I thought GOP stood for Gerbils on Parade! :)
