I think that the victims of Katrina need to stop blaming the US government for the failure of the local governments. And no, I definitely don't think that they should get anymore money.
It's funny how you don't hear about the victims of Charlie, Frances, Jean, and Ivan belly aching about the US government and how they need more money.

My belief is that if the federal levees were built to actually PROTECT the city, then the free market would take care of the rest, homes would be rebuilt, businesses would reopen, people would be employed, etc. Of course, our government is under the belief that "structurally deficient" infrastructure is completely sufficient for the average citizen.
And, responding to the other poster, some Mississippi people need to get off their high-horse. People in New Orleans are rebuilding just as fast, if not faster, than people along the coast. If every home destroyed in New Orleans was within walking distance of a beach I'm certain you'd see a lot more investment in New Orleans as well. Funny thing is, I remember seeing quite a few empty slabs in Biloxi and Gulfport well into the late-80's, more than 20 years after Camille. Maybe New Orleans should sell its soul to casinos as well.
Sorry to the innocent Mississippians also dealing with this mess for my venting. One thing I noticed is that Waffle House rebuilt every location along the Mississippi coast, unlike the other national chains. THAT is a great company and I will never say a bad thing about them again. Vive Waffle House!

The Katrina Survivors didn't get much assistance. Also, when I was in Pennsacola FL when I evacuated from Slidell LA during Katrina. There were ppl living in Fema Trailers there from Hurricane Ivan. They were still getting assistance! I think that the government needs to help those who's crappy insurance companies have failed by denying their claims for bogus reasons like "We are unable to tell if the damage was done by flood water or roof damage flooding?" Give me a break!
God help all of you who are so cold hearted. I pray that you and your loved ones never are put in this situation!
When we were in FL, I couldn't access my bank account to get money. What would you do?? Ya'll are a bunch of cold hearted fools!
GOD BLESS MY FELLOW KATRINA SURVIVORS!! KEEP STRONG!! MUCH LOVE!!

Yes and no. New Orleans no, cause they haven't done hardly anything. Mississippi Gulf Coast yes. MSGC looks like a bomb went off. MSGC is trying to rebuild at least, unlike New Orleans.

I think they should stay where ever they migrated to and bring in the bulldozers to level that SEWER!!!! All N.O. has ever been is a place for thieves, muggers, pickpockets, murderers, etc. (and a little jazz) The taxpapers shouldn't have to pay these people a dime, they didn't work before and they are not working now!!
