it was broken in the movie The Haunting. From the fire place prop the swings out, it hit him in the face,,,i guess he thinks its his trade mark or somthing

He broke it, althought that's obvious. He didn't get it fixed for a while, and then it soon became a trademark of his. It kind of just defines him and he's remember for it. I think that after having it a while, I agree it gives him his own "look". It helps him with his comedy, too :)
