Both Italy and Germany became unified in the 1870s. The Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871) played a large part in the unification of both countries.

Germany immediately comes to mind (1871 unification under Bismarck). The other major European country to emerge united about then was Italy, but that was in the 1860s.

Italy was unified in the 1860's but Rome was only included later.
