Go to the website of your puter and download the AC97 drivers for your model. Intel doesn't have generic AC97 drivers because some companies use different firmware for their onboard AC 97 audio so a generic driver may not work. If you built a machine with an Intel board then Intel should have the drivers for that specific board.

All soundcards have the AC97 codec. You need the brand and model.

first of all, is the soundcard built in on your motherboard or is it an expansion card?
second, what is its chipset or manufacturer? VIA? Realtek? Etc..
