Knowing her past record, this is probably a tax dodge. Follow the money, not the poodle.

Personally, overall I think its her money, and she has a right to do what she wants with it. If that means leaving it to a dog, that is her choice.

However, considering that she had family she could have left it to, it seems like a sad choice to leave it to an animal instead. We don't know the particulars of her relationships with these people, however, and that may impact her reasoning very much when considering leaving the money to her family.

Also, I think she could have found a way to leave enough money for her beloved pet to be taken care of and have its needs met for the rest of its life, but still leave some money to charitable causes or possibly scientific research or educational funding that she might have felt strongly about.

I don't know the particulars, but I hope the money that is not used for the dog's care during its lifetime goes to some institution or charity, or deserving people, on the dog's death.

It just shows how selfish she really was. She could have fed a lot of starving people. She could have built shelters for the homeless.

I'd heard how mean and selfish she was, and this isn't the worse thing she's done, that would be suing her son's widow, and evicting her and Leona's grandchild. But she is who she is, and that's dead.

RIP Leona! I hope there are none like her anywhere, ever again!

Nothing is wrong with leaving it to the dog but how long does a Maltese live and how much can be spent on its care? Half a million would have been more than enough and the rest could have gone to no-kill shelters or Humane Society to keep other dogs in comfort.
It was just a slap in the face to her grandkids that she would leave that much to a dog and nothing to them.

There's a lot of kids starving and living in poverty, even right here in our own nation...don't they deserve more than a dog?
