My husband found it one a website -- listed as Scottish name (in response to Jock's question). Thanks for the replies! Our last name IS Cameron, so for those suggesting that, can't go there. ;-)

Caelan is a fantasic name and says to me that he is a very cheeky chappy. He is the teacher's nightmare, because his imagination is sharp and he does not like to sit for long. Caelan is an explorer.
I think you would need a good short robust middle name for him. Like Ross or James. Something strong and snappy.

Great name. I thought it was Irish cause it is popular in N. Ireland.

I can't say if I like it or not, but my opinion is of no real consequence anyway.

I would like to offer a little advice though. Say the name out loud, say his full name (it never ceases to amaze me as to how many people clearly don't say the names together).

Also try to imagine yourself in various scenarios (I know it sounds a bit silly), like if you were at the park, or calling him in from the garden, or telling him off, how his friends would call him (kids can always manage to shorten a name no matter how difficult you might think it'd be). Even go as far as looking at his initials!

You also need to imagine the child at different ages. Some names are fine on a baby or young child but sound ridiculous on a mature person and vice versa.

A name, I believe, can also affect the future of a child. For instance my partner suggested the name Bud for a boy. I would never have allowed it - I want my children to have to best chance to be whatever they want to be. If Tony Blair had been called Bud Blair, would he ever have got as far as being prime minister? I think not.

I hope this helps. Good luck whatever you decide. I hope you'll all be very happy.

I love that name - it's one of my favourites!
My 10yr nephew is called Caelan!
Apparently... it's a Scottish form of Nicolas.
