You do not pronounce the final 'ent' at the end of 3rd person plural verb.

It's usually pronounced as "ay" (same as vivait, vivais, vivez) but I knew someone from Saguenay in Quebec who pronounced it more as "eh". You pretty much never pronounce final "nt" in French.

You pronounce it like the letter "A," so "ils vivaient" would sound like "eel veevay."
