That would depend on the job, of course. If I'm doing a job that needs to be done, then I'd hate to quit before it was done. But if I'm doing a job that I never should have started in the first place, that has no real purpose, and that trying to finish it will end up causing me more damage than stopping, then I'm out of there.

Yes, but if you put it in a place where it shouldn't have been in the first place or it takes forever to get the job done or if that job will never be done because of lack of control, interest or timing, it's time to pull out before more friction is created.
