Yeah you don't hear of it too much now.

It's more 'doll' this and 'doll' that, or 'love'. - personally I hate it.

"Sheila" is a very old-fashioned word. You don't hear it very often these days and it is not used by young people. I doubt if anyone would be offended by it, many would never have heard it. It has never been a derogatory term although women would not have used it of themselves. It is a generic term for an Irish woman just as "Paddy" is a generic term for an Irish man. The first known use of it was in the newspaper "The Monitor" in 1828,

The only people who use "sheila" regularly are, let's just say, a little more than middle aged. It's not a term that is used much these days. I wouldn't be particularly offended if some old geezer called me a Sheila.

Yes I am offended by it, and it's the second worst thing about the "Outback" restaurant (female bathroom has "Sheila's" written on the door. The worst being the fact that it has no Vegemite :) It's a dreadful term, ad so are "love," and "darl."

no. sheila is not a derogatory term, and i would not be offended by it at all.

and to the person above, i have never been called doll, or heard anyone else using it. most people these days use chicks here too.
