Brady Quinn fell so many spots in the draft before the browns got him. Why? He had a bad record in big games but one man can win a football game. notre dames teams were not that good. he had a great coach in charlie weis, is a good leader, has great work ethic, and has played in a pro style offense. personally i think he fell because of all the people that hate notre dame and wanted to put brady down. I hope he ends up being the next joe montana or tom brady and finally shuts up all the irish haters. Anyway why do so many people hate nd. yes they get media attention, tv contract, blah. why dont people hate usc. people are always talkin about how good sc is. how they will never lose a game again. i hate usc.
GOOOOOOOOOOO IRISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look chief, I am a life time Golden Domer, but you need to face reality.

Does Notre Dame have a great tradition? Heck yeah, right up there with Michigan. But since Lou Holtz left, our Irish have not come close to living up to the hype, whether it is justified or not.

Weis himself said it best when he said any time ND does something good, it will get blown out of proportion, and likewise, when they do anything wrong, it will also get blown out of proportion.

It doesn't help that people think you should belong to a conference....which I disagree with. Why be chained to the Big Lie ( sorry, Big 11, oops, 10), when they can play nationally? Now, in their defense, this will be the first season Weis has had people HE recruited to play, so lets see what direction he takes them.

And in Quinn"s defense, lets look at reality.....He played on a team with zero defense, He only had 1 elite receiver, and a decent Tight End, and RB. He also had alousy O-line.

As you said, one man cannot win games, and one, cannot lose them. That is why it is a team sport. Quinn had substantially less time than Russell, Smith , Booty, or Henne to try and make plays, and ended up getting hit more than any of them because he had no o-line. (look at how bad Troy Smith looked at the Championship when his protection went away)

Compared to Russell? Well, we know he can't throw the ball quite as far and that is about it. To compare any of these guys abilities, they would have to play with the same o-line and receivers, otherwise it is all blue sky. Is he innacurrate? Well he threadded the needle against the Broncos feared firstr string secondary without a hitch. He has averaged a 65% completion ratio ( and if you subtract the 4 spikes, and the bad call in Denver, it would be 75%) So people need to actually look at what the kid does, and stop hating him just cause he's a pretty boy. (who could probably kick most of our butts).

Is he the next Joe Montana? Way early to try and play that card. Even Tom Brady cannot lay claim to that. Is he a talented and exciting QB to watch? Heck yes. And he makes his teammates believe, which is every bit as important. (just ask Vince Young).

Was Quinn overhyped? Of Course....that is the Notre Dame curse....just like it is with the yankees....But that same curse is on the verge of biting guys like Brohm and Henne and Booty on the butt this season? and why/ cause no one can live up to the crap the media spits out.

So, are you a ND fan? A Quinn fan? ( I am both) then enjoy his and their success and ignore the haters. They are just insecure that their teams inadequicies might get noticed.

Most of the criticisms of Brady Quinn you'll hear online had no validity. He DID show up for big games, but the rest of his team didn't. A good d-line could walk all over NDs line, he had one good receiver, and their defense was total crap. You can't expect the best QB in the world to put up 45 points a game against a top defense, especially with no pass protection or running game.

He is very accurate and very strong. He has the throwing power to match 95% of NFL QBs. Sometimes he does not throw a perfect spiral, which some people have interpreted as inaccuracy. I really don' think his camp performances made that much of a difference as to where he was going, except maybe that playing really well may have put him in Miami.

So why didn't he go higher? Simple: there were 3 teams in the draft that needed a QB, Oakland, Cleveland, and Miami. Oakland took Russell because of his potential, which is a good choice. Cleveland picked Thomas because their o-line needed serious help, and knew if they missed Quinn there were some decent QBs that would still be available with their second pick. They may have even been on the phones immediately trying to get another pick and take Quinn, Dallas just happened to be the first team that said yes. I imagine Miami passed on him because they liked Ginn, and knew Beck would still be available in the second round. I don't think that turned out too badly for them at all.

Anyway, it all worked out in the end. Quinn ended up where he wanted, and the people of Cleveland got the guy they wanted. He's already made a splash in the preseason, and it's quite clear he'll at least be a respectable QB when he takes over, if not one of the league's best (in a few years, not immediately).

I dislike the Irish for their sanctimony...as if they are more virtuous than the other teams and schools, and that they seem to think that they deserve to be at the top, simply for being Notre Dame.

The behavior of ND fans after losing to USC in 2005 is a great example. Spitting on and cursing out the USC players. Chanting "Overrated". (Which is incredibly stupid. It means, "You suck. After all, you barely beat us."). Basically sh1tting all over one of the great games of college football history with poor sportsmanship because you (and I don't necessarily mean YOU, specifically) don't think ND should have to lose.

As for the difference with USC? People talk about them being so good because they ARE. When USC wasn't that good (pre-Pete Carroll), no one gave a damn about them. Oklahoma, one of the great programs in history, got no love between the Swtizer and Stoops eras. The difference is that when ND is not that good, people still genuflect towards them. Or when they play a weak schedule, barely beat a lousy Stanford team (by Stanford standards), but run USC close, they get to go to a BCS bowl.

I don't think that Quinn fell because of anti-ND bias. NFL execs (at least any worth his job) are pretty unsentimental about that kind of thing. Enough horrible people have been drafted early and given huge contracts that I doubt if anyone would let someone's alma mater turn them off...unless it was a D3 school or something. I don't think he will be another Brady or Montana...but few people are. But he'll probably have a nice long and successful career.

You think that an NFL team would not pick the best available talent simply because they hate the team he played for in college? Quinn looked bad in the NFL pre draft camps, that is why he fell in the draft. The people who select for the NFL draft, whether it be the GM, the coach, whoever, don't care where a guy went to school. They are trying to win football games, and are looking for the best talent to help them do that. I really doubt any of them care one bit whether a guy played for Notre Dame, USC, or some little Division III school in the middle of Utah.
Get over it.

yeah your probably right NFL GM's, owners and coaches purpousfully didn't draft some one they believed could be a franchise QB for them, all because they don't like Notre Dame. Come on man wake up if satan was in the draft and they thought he could help them win a Superbowl or a few Superbowl's they would draft him in a heart beat. They obviously didn't believe Quinn was that good, I guess we will have to wait and see, Marino went at the end of the first round, Montana went in the third round, Ryan Leaf went second overall, it's not an exact science.

Yeah your right. 21 NFL GM's hate Notre Dame so much that they are willing to risk there job to pass on a QB just because he plays for Noter Dame. I thought you Irish fans were smarter than that. Well no I didn't. People hate Notre Dame because they are not in a conference. And they wont join a conference because than they would have to share all that money they make. Also people hate Notre Dame because there schedule always sucks. And they get votes for the top 25. They play Navy and Air Force every year. All though there schedule this year is a pretty good one.

Why? The first 21 picks were used to fill the needs of the teams in those spots.

As for your comments about the public perception of Notre Dame, they are a team that draws love or hate. There is not much middle ground for them. I don't hear a lot about ND lately, but that is probably related to them not really competing for a national title in a long time. My Huskers don't draw the national attention they used to draw in the mid-1990's.

Best of luck and let's get this season started!!!

No one would pass on a player to show up their alma mater. Thats bizarre, paranoid nonsense. I hate ND because I'm a Michigan fan and your boys and my boys are a major rivalry. I respect Notre Dame, but they haven't lived up to expectations for quite a while now. Brady was part of that. I was never impressed with him, especially to be drafted by a team that passed on Leinart. I think Matt's a better version of the same QB. As to being another Joe Montana or Tom Brady, I just don't see it. And the hatred of ND, I don't see a whole lot nationally. What I see is a lot of people not talking about them at all. People are on this board talking LSU, USC and a little Michigan, but I haven't seen one post on ND.

Brady went to a program that needed him. he sliped down no big deal he will be a great NFL QB. I am a USC fan and don't hate ND its a good rivarly and if you all aren't playing USC I cheer for ND. ND is just a team you hear a lot about so everyone has something to say. no press is bad press.

dan do you hate usc because the killed Michigan in their last 2 rose bowl meetings or because usc is so much better than Michigan .

My issue with brady quinn is that he lead 2 top 10 teams into the ground and he failed miserably with 2 different heisman campaigns.

As a USC fan I hate notre dame because they shouldn't even have an opportunity to play in a BCS game. They aren't in a conference and I would much rather reward a team in a conference over a team that doesn't play in one. JOIN THE BIG 10!!
