Top 5% by year

Bush- In 2004 the top 5% of tax earners payed 57.13% of all taxes collected.
Clinton- In 1999 the top 5% of tax earnes payed 55.45% of all taxes collected.

See a trend here democrats??? I am tired of all the democrats saying the rich don't pay any taxes.

In 2004 the bottom 50% paid in 3.30% of all taxes collected and in 1999 under Clinton 4.0%
See a Trend, I do
Under a republican president the rich pay more and under a democrat the poor pay more!!!

Ok Bruce needs to learn how to read!!!

$25,000-$30,000 pay 3.4% of thier taxes after refunds

$75,000-$100,000 pay 12.9% of thier taxes after refunds.

Actually JM you are not very smart either. By your math at 100 for poor and 200 for rich, THEY DON'T PAY THE SAME TAX BRACKET. At a 100 they pay 15% or $15 and at the 200 bracket at 36% they pay $72.00 Now take your personal tax exemption at $4900 a year you don't pay crap.

GOT TO READ THIS

Clinton's New Budget: And the Winner is ... Big Government
by Scott Hodge
The new budget President Clinton released this week was supposed to attack big government. Big government won.
Over seven years, President Clinton's fiscal year 1997 budget proposes $358 billion in higher spending and $232 billion in higher federal tax revenues than the balanced budget submitted to him by Congress last fall, which he vetoed. That amounts to $3,580 in higher spending and $2,320 in higher tax revenue for every household in America. So much for "the end of big government."

The poor usually end up overall with money received from the government!

We need "The Fair Tax" or at least a "Flat Tax", the progressive tax structure we have now is so utterly unfair and confusing and needs to be completely overhauled!

People in the top 5% make millions, if not billions, of dollars and people in the bottom make less than $30,000. If they all pay the same percentage, then it doesn't take a genius to figure out that one who made millions is going to end up paying more money. Now, if I make a million dollars a year and you make $30,000 and we both are taxed say 40%, I would pay a lot more in taxes than you would.

One could also interpret your last sentence to mean that under a republican the rich get richer and under a democrat the majority of people do better, not just the top 5%.

Why dont you also post the percent of total income those top 5 percent earned. If you want to cherry pick those facts and use them for your advantage then at least be man or woman enough to post all the facts. Its about 85 percent of the total income earned by 5 percent of the people. so when you do the math its not quite as fair as you would like it to be NOW IS IT.

Say you make 1,000,000 and pay 100 dollars and I make 25, 000 and pay 100 dollars. We both paid half the taxes, is that fair? Play fair and report apples against apples. How stupid do you think people are..

is who pays the most income tax the issue?
or is it whether we are collecting enough tax to have a balanced budget 1, and 2, whether we are prioritizing our tax expenditures in the way our citizens really want and really need?

Clearly a balanced budget is preferable to running deficits....spending more than what you take in and borrowing the diff from communist china. So really the big battle is really whether we should be attacking more countries and occupying more countries or having better education for our kids and health care, and roads and bridges etc....

Republicans are so small minded I'll type slow.

First off You're.....means you are..... (see a trend here...conservatives like to sound smart with their conservative facts, but most of them cannot spell 5th grade words)

Secondly, you are misrepresenting the facts and given your politics it may not even be on purpose....you most likely got your info off Fox.......

OF COURSE RICH PEOPLE PAY MORE.....THEY HAVE MORE MONEY....it stand to reason....if I make $100 and you make $200....and we both pay 10%, you paid more, but it was the same percentage of the our income.

Secondly, your guy cut taxes for some then went to war which cost billions.......now, I'm just a little ol' emotional liberal.....but it seems to me that you can't take in less money while spending money.........tons of money.

By the way, one thing you "forgot" the budget was balanced under Clinton....what is it now???????????

SEE TREND HERE CONSERVATIVE SHEEP?

And under a democrat, you get more domestic services. This idiot will have us paying off a senseless war for DECADES........Democrats are concerned with THIS COUNTRY and OUR PEOPLE.

Percent of all taxes paid is only relevant if you give us the corresponding income earned for that tax group.

Since the rich usually get richer under republican rule, I can only assume this omission means their effective tax rate was lower than the common, middle class family.

I know this may be difficult for you to understand, so I will use small numbers, If the total amount of earnings in the USA is $100.00. The top 5% earned 98% of it ($98.00), They owed 57.13% but they earned 98%.

Meanwhile the rest only earned 2.00! Is that clearer? If you make 98% of the money, you should pay 98% of the taxes!

For you Republicans that cannot get it, the rich get richer and the middle class gets screwed!

Another way of intrepreting those numbers is that the rich made more money under Bush and the poor made less. The Rich are getting Richer and the poor are getting poorer.

Plus, I don't recall anyone saying the Rich don't pay taxes...source?

Funny, the data from the IRS says that you are lying. Better check your source.

According to the IRS, earners of over $100,000 dollars contributed less than 15%. The bulk of taxes came from families with income of $30,000 to $75,000. Or, as we like to call them, middle class families.

If you compare the benefits the rich receive from our society (which are obviously much more than those the poor receive) compared to the taxes they pay for those benefits you will easily see the disparity.

Either you are rich or you are a complete fool.
