I'm a pretty normal build (5'5", 130lbs) with relatively small boobs...or so I thought. For years I've worn a 34B bra but when I got measured the other day I was told I'm a 34D. Obviously I didn't listen to the shop assistant at first but after trying some 34D's on I reaslised they fit and support me perfectly. I am very confused because I always thought 34D's are big (like Halle Berry).

Bra sizes are so crazy...different brands and even different styles within the same brand can be different. Use what bra fitters tell you as a jumping-off point, but try on a ton to get an idea of what brands and styles you think look good and feel comfortable.

A lot of women are confused about bra size -- that's why very many women wear the wrong size bra.

34D is not really "a" size -- it's a combination of ratios. 34 is the inches around your underbust less 4-5" (30") and D means that you're 38 inches around the bust. That's all. The difference between the two is 4" and that's where we get the D part from.

Consider though: If you were 34" around the underbust instead, you'd wear a band of 38. If you were still 38 inches at the bust, that'd be a 38AA.

Another way to consider this is that for each band size you go up, the cup one size smaller is equal.

32DD = 34D = 36C = 38B = 40A as far as the size of the cup goes. It's all about the ratio of difference between the underbust and the full bust. There's no such thing then that "D is big" because a 36D is the same size as a 38C in comparison to the cup so we'd have to say if 36D is big then 38C is also big as would be 40B.

Now, the cup on a 44DD, that's pretty big. But, there are much bigger out there.

Always trust what the tape measure says - the bra manufacturers made those bras using standardized measurements.

The measurement "34" is the inches around your body under the breast. For every inch over that is your cup size. So, 1" is an A cup, 2" is B, etc. I doubt Halle Berry is a D. She looks more like a B. But of course on TV they make all of them look like they are huge - no fair!

really what fits you fits you. the thing is that the letter tells you how many inches you are fuller in the fullest part of your bust than your band size (the 34) so hally barry might be a d but really she is like a twig so her breast to band difference is much larger than a person with similar breast but maybe larger in all

basically if it fits it fits and if your comfortable your comfortable this new size seems to work for you so i wouldnt worry about it
