If someone on an F-1 visa enters a poetry contest and wins publication, does the cash prize (if there is one) count as employment? if it does, can it be donated?

I would like, specifically, if perhaps i could have a quote or something from a USCIS site or in Immigration. I appreciate other responses, but sometimes things that seem logical are not so in the world of bureaucracy.lol

I don't think it's employment. Who's the employer? What's the job description? You can get the most correct information from your school office that issued your DS-what's-it's-number form.

I don't think it would count as employment, but it would count as reportable income, and as such would be subject to Federal and State taxes.
