I have a 15 year old daughter who frequently has these sort of assignments and I'll give you the same advice that I give her:
Stick to subject matter that is relevant to someone your age, otherwise you'll be trying to explain something that may be over your head.
I found this article for you and I hope it helps.

It's a good example of subject matter that you can handle better than scandal and corruption. There's plenty of time for that stuff later in life. Good Luck!

Just pick up your newspaper...there are plenty of topics to pick from....
1) Senator Larry Craig's behavior soliciting sex with a male cop in the next stall in an airport public bathroom. Should he resign? He votes against all gay issues.
2) Attorney General (the nation's top cop) Alberto Gonzalez resigning after congressional pressure and immanent impeachment.
3) President Bush giving a speech saying the "surge" is working in Iraq when it isn't (he is lying again).
4) President Bush giving a speech in New Orleans saying he and the federal government haven't forgotten the people of New Orleans (he is lying yet again).
There are more examples of topics but I hope this will get you thinking about politics. Everyone is equally important and has the same say (one vote) no matter how much they think they know about politics!

Do your research on the internet. You will find more in depth information there than you will in the newspapers.
You'll just never know if Rupert Murdoch owns the paper you are reading.
Do a search on him and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Of course, this is a very volatile area you are thinking of venturing into. Just stick to your guns and don't get offended by what others think.

How about how Dem Governor Jon Corzine signed legislation in April 2007 to provide most of New Jersey's homeowners with a 20 percent cut in their property taxes.

Wish I could help, but I've never been to the "Garden State". Make an appointment with some local politico and interview him/her. Your teacher would love that! Otherwise, I suggest you move to California. Politics are interesting here, especially regarding our Governator. He keeps late-night comics going, just like President Bush!

You can write that you are smarter than half of the clowns in politics today, simply by the fact that you admit you don't know much.
There are way too many pompous, arrogant fools in our government who think they do know something.
When you run for office one day, let me know. I'll move to Jersey and vote for you.

Don't rely on Wikipedia. I had a professor the other night to tell our class that it is not really reliable. Just go to your library and read scholarly journals. If you are in college, I am assuming you are, you may be able to get access online to the journals. Good luck!

You can write about the failures of the Bush Administration. This should give you enough material to fill volumes of a book as large as "War and Peace"

If you don't know much about politics, you'll be right at home on these boards. Write whatever you want to write, about any subject at all.
