i would like to have a party(im am going to charge a cover), either at a banquet hall or private house. can i leagally sell liquor

No you cannot legally sell the liquor only establishments that have a liquor license can sell because it's an item that must be taxed as well as the legal drinking age issue. Your idea to charge a cover is okay or you can do what I've done and say admittance to your party requires each guest or couple to bring a bottle with them. You know the old BYOB Bring your own beer. I know liquor is very expensive if you have a large party just ask them to chip in. I usually have everyone bring something to drink and tell them I will provide all the food. You might want to invest in a good amount of mixers though--- cola, tonic, grenadine, etc.

In some states, you can get a "special event" liquor license that is valid for the day of your event only. Depends on your city/county/state laws. Lots of groups at my hotels do this. Try starting with your state department of health and they will steer you as to where to go.

If you have a liquor license you can sell liquor legally.
