I am 40 weeks and 1 day pregnant. 4 nights ago i was in labor & delivery b/c my contractions were 3 mins apart, but i was only 2 cm dialted and after an hour i was still only 2 cm, so i was sent home. I continued to have those contractions for 2 days. Now they have gone away from the most part, But the contractions i get now are ALOT more painful, but way further apart, and arent rythmic. All day yesterday i had flu like symptoms which i know can be a sign of labor, & i went to bed with period like cramping. This morning when i woke up i was having HORRIBLE cramping and a lower back ache. And every so often, i get a horrible pain in the right side of my butt, and also last night i was having rectal pressure. This morning, sitting on the couch i was having some real strong contractions, so i figured i would go walk walmart for 2 hours. Now after doing that, the contractions have gone away completly, and i feel fine. Is it normal for labor to stall like this? What should i do?

i was over by 9 days... i was also getting contractions as well.. i thought my water had broke on the 8th day but wasn't so... I was suggested to take a bareable HOT shower letting the water pressure focused on the belly..... within 1 hour i was in active labor and i was a mom to a baby girl in next 12 hours...
that is what i went thru exactly 3 weeks today so give it a try.. it worked for me..

btw... i pretty much went thru the same symptoms as well..

best of luck..!!

I've been told that drinking a small bottle of castor oil works well too. When I was pregnant I just made a royal pain in the a$$ out of myself until the doctor agreed to "stir the pot" (manually stretch my cervix, I was 2 cm for the last 4 weeks of my pregnancy). It hurt like a son of a b**ch, but it worked. I did that for both pregnancies. The funny part was when he went to stir the pot for the second one, I was already in the early stages of labor, but had no contractions just a mild pain in my low back. I would use caution with the nipple stimulation. I've heard that it does work, but you have to do it several times a day, for at least 30 min at a time, and when it does bring on labor, it's hard and fast.

I'm in the same boat. They called mine early labor and said I was to walk, walk, walk to help get baby to drop to help dilate the cervix. I have been walking my butt off and it doesn't really seem to help, everytime they check me they say she comes down but then moves back up, I guess she is just comfortable being up high. This, however, isn't working very well for me. I have extreme back pain and pressure. I have contractions that are about 3 min apart but they are not "strong enough" to push her down. My child is also well over 8 lbs and is due on Saturday. I guess she will come when she's ready, hopefully this is sometime soon. Good luck to you.

I had a terrible labor, literally ready to blow my head off. It was 4 days long, and the contractions were sporatic. They were so intense though, that I didn't eat or drink anything the entire 4 days and I was sent home from the hospital every single day.
I felt I had to answer because I too had a long labor. I just wanted to tell you no matter what to eat and drink plenty and stay hydrated. Good luck to you and here's to fast progression of your stubborn dilation!!

It is likely that the baby positioning is causing your labor to start and stop like it is. You could also try moving around on your hands and knees as though washing the floor by hand. That sometimes help and has been known to start labor.

This is a recipe that my birth instructor gave me. Most women go into labor within 48 hours of eating this:

Eggplant Parmesan all Scalini's Ingredients
3 medium size eggplants
1 cup flour
6 eggs beaten
4 cups fine Italian bread crumbs
Seasoned Olive oil for sauteing
8 cups marinara sauce
1/2 cup of grated Romano cheese
1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 lbs mozzarella cheese shredded
2 cups of ricotta cheese

Instructions: After you wash the eggplant, slice them into 1/4 inch thick slices. You may choose to peel the eggplant, but the skin contains a lot of vitamins as well. Place the eggplant slices on a layer of paper towels and sprinkle them with salt. Cover with another layer and hold it down with something heavy. Let them set for about an hour.

Working with one piece of eggplant at a time, dust with flour, then dip in the beaten eggs, then coat well with bread crumbs. Saute' in preheaded olive oil on both sides until golden brown.

In a baking dish, alternate layers of sauce, eggplant slices, and the different cheeses until you are about 1/8 inch from the top.

Scalini's Marinara Sauce
2 TBSP chopped garlic
3 TBSP olive oil
8 cups chopped tomatoes
1 cup onions chopped
1/2 cup of fresh chopped parsley
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp red pepper
1/8 cup fresh chopped sweet basil
Pinch of thyme
Pinch of rosemary
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper

Saute' onions in olive oil in a large pot. Add garlic and saute' for another miniute. Add tomatoes and bring sauce to a boil, then turn heat to low. Add the rest of the ingredients, stir, cover, and let simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally.

You just have to wait until she is ready. You're not actually late on delivery yet, 41 1/2 or 42 weeks is considered late and they have to do what they have to do... i wish you the best. Just do what the doctor says... :)

SEX really does work. Leave the semen inside, the same prostaglandins that is in your hubbies stuff is the same stuff they use for inducing you. Your water should break and then they cannot send you home. What a jerk of a doctor. Sorry for you. Nipple stimulation is supposed to work also.

I hope she decides to come out soon! You're making me nervous! I want my baby out already and I still have 5 days till my due date! Everyone always says that the first baby is going to be late.....I would just do everything you can, walk, have sex, stimulate your nipples, whatever you have to do. I hope she comes out soon! Good luck to you!

good for your doctor not insisting that you be induced!!! your uterus is practicing. sometimes it practices harder than other times. just follow your doctor's advice and keep walking. every labor is different and starting and stopping is definitely normal.
good luck!!!!
