its because it heats food faster for example. heating a casserole, it takes 5 minutes on medium, 3 minutes on medium high and probably 1 minute for high. so is it safe to do it that way or will it brake it in the long term?

i have been using my microwave on the highest heat settting for 19 years now and have never had any problems with it...

The high setting is the norm for most foods but occasionally you will see directions for a lower setting. Check out your microwave instruction book if you have questions about the settings.

No problem, most new microwaves actually run at full power but have a timer that shuts them off for different lengths of time during the cooking cycle rather than actually reducing power.
