I would suggest that you speak to a mental health professional, who can help you with this problem.

Been there, done that. First, see your doctor. It may be a chemical imbalance, and doctors can prescribe meds just like a psychologist can. If your doctor isn't comfortable, get a referral to a psychologist. Make sure you are comfortable with that person.

As soon as you can, start pushing the boundaries, a little at a time. Keep an eye out for what "triggers" you. Crowds? Noise? The unknown? Knowledge is power against fear.

Don't anticipate if you can help it. Your first day is NOT going to be as bad as you think. If you need to, bring a friend to help you get from place to place. And after that, the campus and the classes will be familiar. There will be familiar people. The fear will recede on its own.

The most important thing is for you to keep going. You will win some battles and lose some battles, but the war is long-term, and you have the strength to fight it and come out on top. Always believe that tomorrow is another day. :)

You may need to speak to a counselor about your anxieties. He/she will help you with coping skills.

As for college, is it nearby? If so, I suggest you go on a Sunday when there aren't many people about. Walk around and find your way without a lot of people. You may feel better about getting around campus once you know your way.

It is crowded- especially when classes let out and students go from building to building. Remember, they are just going to class just like you.

Take a deep breath and move on. But, first- talk to the counselor. That should set your mind at ease.

The best way to conquer your fear is to go out in public places. I would say start out slow. But if you don't think you can do that, sign up to get some counseling. I think at all University counseling is free (part of your tuition).

It sounds like you have social anxiety (like me). Talk therapy and medication can help with this; see a psychiatrist.
