The House of Representatives could impeach the president at any time, if they so wanted. The Democrats have the necessary simple majority required to pass the articles of impeachment. The term High Crimes or Misdemeanors was never fully explained in the constitution. It is up to the House of Representatives to determine what constitutes an impeachable offense. Of course impeachment alone does not remove the President from office. The Democrats have a slim majority in the Senate, and in all likelihood will not get the required 2/3 majority required for a conviction, and removal from office.

They won't impeach the President without proof of a definable crime being committed. If they do, they know going in that impeachment will accomplish nothing, and in all likelihood look like an act of political revenge.

Bribery, perjury, and treason are among the reasons meriting impeachment, also "high crimes and misdemeanors"- which is pretty vague but due to the seriousness of the impeachment process this must be a very serious offense as well. Abuse of power and serious misconduct in office fit this category, but one act that is definitely not grounds for impeachment is partisan discord. Several impeachment cases have confused political animosity with genuine crimes.

There are enough people in power out there who show their disdain for Bush - if they had reason to impeach him they would have already done it.

Amber - The reason for Clinton's impeachment was not an affair it was for grand jury perjury and obstruction of justice.

Well Clinton was impeached but the senate failed to do it's job and toss old Bill out.

Bush on the other hand while not the sharpest tool in the shed has not committed any High Crimes or Misdemeanors that would be required to bring about an Impeachment hearing.

First of all, what offense did he commit that would warrant an impeachment and who is going to impeach him? Lots of talk in congress, but no action.

Why do you think that the approval rating of congress is below 10%, do you think people think they are doing a good job.

I say NO.

With all the people that the Left has convinced that Bush is bad, if they thought he had done an impeachable offense the democrats would have Bush out already. The mere fact he is still in office speaks volumes.

Granted Clinton's spin doctors' did a great job of convincing the public that his perjury wasn't a "REAL" crime. Well when one has the press on your side you can't do wrong.

Which president?

In America, as far as I know, a president must be brought up on criminal charges before impeachment becomes an option. To my knowledge there have been no criminal charges filed against the president.

Which one? First one must commit a crime. Then the Congress will act. Since they have not acted there is no reason to impeach. Peace

If the Democrats succeed then the Republicans would impeach Democrats.

Why is it that only Republicans and Democrats run the US government at all levels?

Other parties exist.

Only Democrats and Republicans would do a thumbs down since both use people for their schemes.

Neither can be trusted.

The Democrats have such a slim majority in Congress, we can't even enforce contempt-of-Congress citations on the people whose testimony might have led us to a more clear view of what *may* have been impeachable offenses.

Without clear cut charges and the ability to level them, we can't impeach Bush. Luckily, he's got barely a year before he's a "lame duck."
