Hey guys I'm working on my calc work and I have a basic question, I completely forgot this.

When you have [0,4) or [0,x) or whatever... What does the [ and ( mean... what's the difference between those?

A parenthesis sign, ' ( ' or ' ), ' means that the set is OPEN at that end. Brackets, ' [ ' or ' ], ' means it's CLOSED at that end. OPEN means that the number or quantity associated with that symbol actually ISN'T in the set; CLOSED means that the number associated with the symbol IS in the set.

Thus [0,4) means that the set consists of all values from and INCLUDING 0 up to but NOT INCLUDING 4.

Live long and prosper.

[0,4) means all x such that 0 ≤ x < 4
(0,4] means all x such that 0 < x ≤ 4.
see the difference? the bracket means the boundary point is included in the set; the parenthesis means it's not.
