Should we be able to predict the results of the big election in 2008?

It seems the letters D and R have become the most convincing qualities of a candidate.

I appreciate your effort, onenation_blablabla. Though it seems you just rewrote my question in an abstract form.

I would like to see us call ourselves "Americans". I am sick and tired of the "conservative" or "liberal" labels. Voters should vote for the person who is best for the job and NOT for the political party.

My answer to your question is "no". We should not be able to predict the results. We should vote for who we believe in and not for who has "the best chance".

I personally think that Congress is more polarized than the public. Most of the candidates this time are eithre love'em or hate'em types. I would like to see a third party candidate in the picture but that won't happen in my lifetime I'm afraid. There is just too much money in too few pockets for that to happen.

I have never even paid attention to what party a candidate comes from. I want to see their resume. I want to hear what plans they have. I don't need to see what they look like. From what I have been reading in a few of these answers, perhaps, I'm going about it all wrong and should flip a coin instead!

A lot of people are trying to look at the middle, but there are not a lot of choices so its often the American voter is left without a choice except D and R. Then it comes down to those "Values" people vote for.

The Republicans are the party of failure. They've failed us in Iraq; Failed us in New Orleans; Failed to provide energy security to America; Failed to balance a single budget with both the Congress and White House in their hands; Failed to protect the environment; Failed to keep the moral hypocrisy of their party out of the highest levels of elected office - You can name just about anything; They've failed at it.

So forgive me for saying that if they're headed to the South 'Pole' (And this country under their leadership certainly is headed South); I'm headed North...
