I will usually talk seriously for a while and work my way into a silly comment or a funny situation to compare theirs to. I try and sneak something in so they laugh unexpectedly.

By remembering and reminding your friend of the good times. Even better than that, take your friend to a nursing home and read to an elder who has no family that visits. You will be amazed at the gratitude you will see in that one's eyes! Or take your friend to a mission and help serve a meal. Maybe you and your friend could go to a homeless shelter and help out with some chores, or just share smiles with every one who crosses your path. Helping others is the best way to rid ourselves of our own sorrow. Your friend is blessed to have you! Have a glorious weekend! Annie

Let em know that your there for them, then give them all the space they need for as long as they need it! Remember, what ever thier going through is about them. Don't make it about you by getting hurt by thier need for space! Be understanding. Your friend will be just fine in time!

I think it depends on the friend. If it's my husband, I usually say something cute and sexy. If it's my best friend, it's a smart-*** remark about something stupid.

If it's myself, I watch comedy shows or read something stupid to make myself laugh.
