While typing when I select a part of a sentence and push the Back Space button on the keyboard, nothing happens and it doesn't delete that part, however the Delete button does it.

I want to know where in Microsoft Word I can define the functions of each button on the keyboard.

Plz give the exact address.
Tnx

Go to Tools > Options and a box should pop up. Click the "Edit" tab. There is a box there that should be checked off labeled "Typing replaces selection". This is probably not checked and it needs to be.

Remapping your keyboard's keys and functions is not a built-in feature of Microsoft Word that I have ever used (and I feel I have explored just about every nook and cranny of Word). Sorry about that.

Furthermore, you should be able to highlight regular text in Word and hit your Backspace key and have it delete the part that is highlighted. If yours does not do this, something is going wrong. Have you tested your backspace key to see if it has stopped working, in general? It sounds a little like your backspace key simply is not working, at all, and that you need to repair your keyboard or get a new one. Also, try rebooting your computer and trying again. What you are attempting to do *should* work without having to remap any keys on your keyboard.

Sorry that your computer (or keyboard) is giving you a hard time. Good luck!

(After I answered, I read the other answers, and answer 1 is awesome, and is quite possibly what is wrong, and therefore, the best answer :) -- if you find out that the option mentioned in answer 1 was indeed not checked, it means somebody in all likelihood unchecked it manually. A very interesting nook/cranny!

This is a Word option setting:

1. Click on the Tools->Options menu item.
2. Click the Edit tab.
3. Under Editing Options, check the check box next to "Typing replaces selection".
4. Click OK.

That should do it.

Also, check and see if your backspace button works in Notepad or some other text editor.
