Definitely New Wave. I was never deeply enthralled with hair metal, although my friends were deep into it at the time. I was more likely to be listening to Duran Duran than Cinderella. History has now proved me right. Unless of course Rock of Love wins out at the Emmy's.
I did like Ratt and Motley Crue, but that was the end of the line for me.
Saw them at House of Blues in 03, so I am officially "out of the closet!"

I'd say New Wave, because the only metal I seem to hate is Hair Metal. Lame party ballads just don't seem to compare to 70s British Metal or Thrash/Speed Metal. If the band couldn't survive the birth of Grunge, I'm not that interested in their version of Metal.
New Wave can still at least give me a devotional laugh.

I have to go with both.
I was growing up during the late '60's and the music was all over the place from Simon and Garfunkle to Led Zeppelin.
The '80's was kinda of a repeat with new wave and metal. It made for some great home made music tapes.

definately not Hair metal as far as the todays rock/metal scene is concerned. Lyrics right now seem to be emotional and the music definately is more from power metal and new wave rather than hair metal.

For me, it would be New Wave, Im a huge fan of The Cure. I also really like Siouxsie & the Banshees and The Smiths. Bands like Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth saved me from the hair bands. (Thank God!)

Hair metal. Can't get enough of it.
Twisted Sister, Guns N' Roses, Skid Row (shouldn't be considered any old hair band, but they are)...All great music.
