..the Governement "can only do much".

In other words, if aint Bush's baby you aint funded.

"You're doing a heckuva job Brownie".

But in New Orleans Uncle Sam says screw you, we need our $10 Billion a month for Iraq.

Isnt it disgusting, a "christian" nation has THESE priorities?

The $10B a month is additional money to the already $300B annual budget.
Sure, no money for education, no money for roads and bridges, no money for police or fire departments, no money to support States that offer low cost health insurance.....I want to PUKE!!!

The state of New Orleans was left in horrific shape. There were monies alloted for help and repair but it did not go to the right people. Mayor Ray Niglin(?sp) is white washing the facts and not doing what he promised during and after the storm. He is begging people to come back to New Orleans and some only to find lack of resources, rent rates rising at least 30% and the amount of homelessness has doubled. Concerned citizens who work, but do not make enough money to get a place to live have put a tent city directly in front of the Mayors office in City Hall. He claims that as much as possible has been done for these people and that because the plight of the city it is at a standstill. The worst part is that almost all tourist destinations in New Orleans have been reparied and are up and running. What about the people who have spent their lives building homes and familes whom insurance has denied their coverage? Everyone in politics in New Orleans blames someone else instead of grabbing hold of the reigns and working on situations itself. Something needs to be done and now!!! As far as the war in Iraq goes, that funding comes from a completely different source. Money for war is asked for through congress and has it's own seperate source. I am against the war in Iraq but as a Army Veteran I am proud of the great job that our troops are doing over there. One life lost for oil and solving others religious wars is not worth it. Bush just today said that he is going to "help" New Orleans. I suppose it is the same as always. Wait and see. God Bless the People of New Orleans and all the other cities, states and localities hit by Katrina.

Uh, we had already appropriated over $130 Billion To New Atlantis. Most of it is going to be a waste because it will happen again. THe land is sinking, the wetlands shrinking and The locals Government is even A lot worse( & more responsible than Bush)That does not even include the Insurance money going into the effort. Read the Time Magzine from 3 weeks ago.

Ah, if *only* the Iraq War were ohly costing us $10/month. Not one US soldier would be there.

While many complain that people in NO aren't doing enough (though I challenge them to watch the "Dirty Jobs" episode about the people who are cleaning out the flooded "trash houses), anyone with creativity in FEMA could come up with a plan that meets other peoples' contributions, or rewards industry. It shouldn't be a case of "just throw money at them" or "do nothing." But if that were the case, "do nothing" is still a bad choice.

I agree that our priorities are skewed.

ETA: Per the early reply, I seem to remember Florida getting FEMA assistance after Andrew. Do you mean to say they went back and built new houses in a Hurricane Zone?

The federal gov't has already handed $96 Billion to the local New Orleans black hole of a government.
Money is not the issue, it's corrupt/inept politicians and/or lazy incompetent citizens.

The President and us tax payers have allocated over 60 BILLION$$ to NO for the citizens not counting all the donated $$. Less then a 1/4 of it has been used,so look at the chocolate city's mayor and the governor,It's their responsibility to do their job not the President~

We tried giving money to those affected by Katrina. When it was discovered that the money was going for everything from Playstation 3's, to strip clubs, to prostitutes... we thought better of it. Typical lib, let's just throw money at a problem.

Well then the New Orleans Government needs to work a little harder don't they.

However what do you expect from Bush, his priorities don't usually reflect excellent judgement.

Isn't it disgusting that the people of New Orleans re-elected those that failed them? Isn't it wonderful that all the other States affected by Katrina aren't complaining and whining and actually do something to rebuild?
