179 is a great heart rate at 8 weeks! The heart rate will slow down as the baby grows. Think of a cat or dog and how fast their hearts beat compared to humans because they are so much smaller - then think of how TEENY TINY your baby is right now! At 8 weeks, my baby's heart rate was 171.
As for knowing if it's a girl or a boy, that's just an old wives tale that a faster heart rate is a girl.

Don't panic...the normal range for 8 weeks pregnant is anywhere from 149 to 172 bpm. The fetal heartrate will continue to increase through the 10th week (and can reach up tp 195 bpm).
I think that heartrate sounds like a very strong and healthy baby. Personally, I don't believe in the old wives tales about gender and heartrates...but if you do, you are having a girl!

♥ No actually that is perfectly fine. A baby's heart rate is much faster than ours! Generally the higher the heart rate the means its a girl, but its just an old wives tale. Congratulations and Good Luck!

As my nurse says-all heartbeats are fast when they are that small. My baby's was 168 yesterday and I am 28 plus weeks pregnant. It may slow down-but some babies just have fast heartbeats. Mine is generally in the mid to high 160's-while my friends is usually in the 130's. She is having a boy and I am having a girl.

when i was pregnant with my 3rd child and i was around 37 weeks i had an ultrasound that said there was no fluid around my baby and there for they had to induce me, you will probably be monitered through the pregnancy and probably induced earlier than normal if the fluid doesnt build up, i know that if they would have done an ultrasound on me when i told them something felt wrong then i would not have had a dry birth, and you deffinately dont want a dry birth, even though you will probably have a cesar, it is also dangerous as it can develope into a condition called oligohydramnios and can lead to all kinds of problems, if you need more info on this condition than google, good luck, i hope everything goes well for you and congradulations on concieving triplets naturally

1) the heart rate typically peaks arround 175 in the first trimester, settling down to arround 140 in the second trimester. 179 isn't anything to be concerned about
2) determining sex from the heartbeat is a myth that has been disproven in several studies

babys heartrates are naturally much faster than ours. it is normal to be that high... if something were wrong the doctor would have told you at the ultrasound. I think if its on the faster side it is suppose to be a boy. but thats just an old wives tale

Usually girls heart beats faster than boys, when I had my ultrasound done two months ago she told me it was 155, and i'm having a boy so that's probobly pretty normal for a girl. I'm sure they would have told you if something was wrong, so I wouldn't worry. Congrats!

Yes, it's normal since you are so early in your pregnancy. Don't trust the heartbeat myth. According to my babies heartbeat I should be having a girl, I'm definitely having a boy!!!
