In my opinon, Hillel was one of the most unique Guitarist of all time. He has his own style and sound. I do like John but the Chilipeppers music has not had the same essence since Hillel died. Hillel is my choice, Huckleberry was the man!

John Frusciante is Hillel's protege in a way. And you can't get better than your mentor. I like John Frusciante better, but in terms of talent, you're right. Hillel's better. I think that it was fate that made Hillel leave, I don't know what I would do if he wasn't there. I'm glad Hillel taught him the music. Pplus, John was a fan of the Chili Peppers before he joined, so I think he would say that Hillel was great too.

You certainly have a lot more of John Frusciante to go on. Hillel was only around for two albums and one EP. Both were great, but the RHCP didn't miss a beat with Frusciante.

A lot of people say that John took away the unique sound of R.H.C.P, but he was really just a more mature guitarist. Around the time of bssm they evolved into one of the most influential groups of all time. Now you can't be a bad guitarist to be part of that!

that's a hard one to decide.........both had their strengths and contributed to the band and music. I can't choose between the two. Its like comparing Bon Scott to Brian Johnson of AC/DC.
Its two different people during two different eras of the band.
