We currently have Sprint which we are happy with but have found out that they have been screwing us over with billing over the past two years that they owe us almost $1000 but refuse to pay back. Anyhow we would like to switch carriers and I would like to know is Verizon better or ATT and why...We have a 3 line family plan currently.

I think Verizon would be better than AT&T. I have had AT&T for a few years now and lately they have so many dropped calls and their reception sucks most of the time. All my friends have Verizon and they hardly have a dropped call and they get really good reception almost anywhere. When my contract expires I will be going with Verizon.

There is a really good website below that deals with all the major carriers and all the phone plans and they have lots of very cool cell phones for free with a new service plan. You can get at least 2 free cell phones with a family plan as well. That's where my friends recently got their Verizon plan and their free phones and they were really pleased with the site and their service.

I worked for a Verizon call center for a while and what I liked most about them was their large coverage area. Verizon had more cellular towers in more cities and states (at that time) than any other carrier. That means that you could receive cellular service in areas with Verizon, where you could not with other carriers. With all of the mergers that have taken place over the past several years, however, Verizon may no longer be able to boast about being the carrier with the largest network. Some of the most critical points to consider are: Do you travel or have relatives or friends in other states or countries? Canada maybe? Puerto Rico? Bahamas? Large areas of water can sometimes make for poor reception. Call a few carriers (or research them on-line) and see which one has the most cell towers in the areas that you frequent; that way you have fewer worries about not being able to get a cellular signal when you're out of town or out of state. How much proration will you incur on your first bill? (This is what I disliked the most about Verizon). The formula that Verizon used for proration (at that time) almost took a rocket scientist to understand, and I endured many a cursing out from customers who were shocked into near cardiac arrest, when their first bill arrived. 9 times out of 10, the sales associate who initialized the customer's plan, did not bother to inform the customer that though they'd signed up for a 500 minute plan, all 500 of those minutes would not be available until the following month. (The customers minutes are prorated also, which resulted in only 1/2 if not less, of those 500 minutes being available from the time that the customer activated the phone, until his first billing cycle). Most sales reps (again, at that time) did not bother to inform customers how to check their minute usage, right on their handset, and so 9 times out of 10, customers went over their allotment of minutes - ESPECIALLY on family share plans. Also at that time, Verizon reps often did not inform customers that the MAIN phone held all of the family share minutes, which meant that whoever had that phone, had to add up the minute usage of everyone on the plan, to get a true read for how many minutes were available. (What a nightmare). So if you are not the only person on the account, you want to ask detailed questions about how the family share plan (or friends and family or whatever it may be called) works! Find out when your old minutes end and your new minutes begin. Find out whether roaming is included in your plan and if not, how does your phone notify you that you are in roaming mode. (Roaming happens when your service carrier does not have a cellular tower in the area where you have traveled, and another cellular carrier's tower picks up and completes your call. That carrier then bills YOUR carrier and your carrier, then socks it to....I mean, bills YOU)! Find out what the roaming charges are and always be careful to stay aware of whether or not your phone has gone into roaming mode. How often can you upgrade and get a new phone? At the time with Verizon, only the MAIN phone on the Family Share plan, qualifed for a new phone once every 2 years (which is in the fine print of your service agreement). So read, read and then read the terms of any service agreement again, before you sign it. Before you cancel your service with Sprint, find out what the cancellation fee is, and find out if that fee is charged to all of the lines on your account, or only to the main phone. Most carriers charge $100 - $200 PER PHONE if you cancel your service before the 2 year agreement expires, so that's a major consideration. Ask questions and STILL read the small print before you sign on the dotted line. Find out if what features come with your plan, like text messaging, internet, long distance, etc. Most people assume that just because a phone can perform a certain feature, that you can use that feature free of charge. Very few things in life (or death) are free! So research, ask and then pray. And may the force be with you!

Verizon - DON'T get ATT. We had it as a family plan and never got reception, so we switched to Verizon. It's cool because with the IN service, all calls and text messages to anyone who has Verizon - not just family - are free. and i always have reception

I think you should use Verizon. Personally I'm with T-Mobile but I think Verizon would be better.
