So many women today think that they are so independent, and they say they do'nt ever need a man in their lives. But yet all still seem to be getting breast implants, starve themselves, dye their hair. For other women no way. Whey do you think they feel the need to do this?

Sometimes it is just your own body image, not how others percieve you. They do say they don't need one, but that doesn't mean they don't want one!!!

First, the majority of women do not get implants or starve themselves ~ that's a pretty broad generalization you made.

Although it is true that some women do go overboard, most just want to feel and look good. It's no different than putting on nice clothes instead of just wearing sweats. It's a different way of presenting yourself.

Furthermore, I think it is insulting to imply that women only do this to get a man.

Women are not independent, at least not the ones who starve themselves, get breast implants, etc. Everything always revolves around a man. True independent women are career orianted.

I think women all have insecurities and weaknesses and bitterness inside of them. They feel that having a man helping them or being there for them will automatically place them in under the label of inferior and dependent. They feel men are only needed for their money and don't consider that men are partners and are their to be a companion for a lifetime. These same women who preach independence are constantly affected by the media's image of beauty and many of them undergo these surgeries to impress the same men they say they will never need. Feeling beautiful for yourself is the key to life and surgery will never erase your memory of your old self. All women are beautiful if they take the time to get to know themselves and love themselves. Not all women will look like jennifer lopez or kate hudson, but there is an inate beauty in all of us. And even if we are 300 pounds overweight or emaciated, as long as we believe in ourselves and love ourselves thats all that matters. Not men, not stereotypes of beauty....just knowing what we want and where we are going. Somehow, we'll make it through.

I think I understand the question, I think it's low-self-esteem, lack of self confidence and denial.
Women who claim to hate men and not need them are usually not very confident about themselves, like a former friend I had in high school, she was sort of plain and a little overweight but she had very big boobs. Guys generally didn't notice her even with the big boobs. Actually she was made fun of by guys. I don't know where she ended up in life but she used to say if she could afford plastic surgery she's do it. I lost touch with her when she became addicted to cocaine.

From my own personal experience, I think it's just to feel better about yourself. I haven't had breast implants---I had a breast reduction, and I feel sexier, prettier, more confident. It's not about how other people perceive me---it's about how I feel about myself. I recently quit dying my hair---I decided that letting my hair go gray naturally was empowering for me. A few years ago I would have said the opposite.

Most people need other people, and most people crave companionship, which means at some point, these independent women will want a man in their lives. As for why they do all these things to themselves yet claim they don't need anybody -- I think they're in denial. They want someone. They don't need someone, but they want someone.

Some people, both women and men, need to correct their bodies surgically because they lack the self-confidence that other have who are perfectly happy with their bodies, some people just want to look better for themselves.

society and media put way to much pressure on woman and have high expectations of appearances which impact a womans self esteem and confidence. This usually has nothing to do with needing a man.

I wouldn't do it for a guy, I think a lot of us females do these things to control an outside world that reflectively, on the inside is way out of control, and it makes us sick and almost delusional, taking us to extremes.
