I work for our family business, I'm sick of having to keep track of who's here on time and who isn't.
Our employer makes us earn our sick leave:
ie: In order for us to earn 4 hours of sick pay (That's only 1/2 a day!!!) we have to have perfect attendence for one month with only one time you're allowed to be late!
I think that an employer should either give sick leave every year automatically or not at all. I do not believe it is fair to make an employee "earn" the right to be sick!
Please give me some sites that I can find information directly on this matter. I'm sure the Texas Workforce Commission would have something to say about their company practices!

Don't give me BS about this "not fair" crap! I'm asking this question for a reason. I am the office manager and this is a VERY small machine shop.
I only asked to find out if others share this same "earning" of sick leave.
I am a full time employee, and I have been running this office for several years.

Earning sick leave is typical. Most private and public workplaces have some sort of plan where you earn sick leave and/or sick leave pay. Some regulations don't apply to small companies. Call the workforce commission. They will be glad to help you anonymously.

Most employers do require that you're at the company for a certain amount of time before you can even accrue sick time. And it's fairly normal for you to earn sick days for most employers. Sometimes you get a bucket package (like 17 days) and that includes any vacation and sick time off you would like to take for the whole year. It just depends on your employer. But yes, this is completely legal.

what do you mean by "earn"? according to what policy dictates, or is it your employers personal imposititon of the rule?
"sick leave" depends on individual company policy, which varies with different places of work. Most times there is a policy concerning that of sick leave, such as.... you have to be F/T and have worked there a full calendar year, or sick leave is a benefit after three months and so on. Some places don't offer it at all.
If you are concerned, check out what your company's actual policy is concerning this.If you are still dissatisfied and think what is being done doesnt stay in line with your company's policy..... check the Department of Labour Website, as well as your individual state's website on various laws.

I'm in NE, work for a company out of New Mexico, I get 4.65 hours of PTO per pay period, this time can be used for either vacation or Sick time...so it's totally normal to have to "earn" the time off...especially if this is a small business, many don't give paid time off at all due to the cost.

Sick leave is a benefit. Not all benefits are just given, some are earned. There are plenty of jobs that don't offer to pay you a dime when you are sick. You miss work, you miss getting paid. Be thankful for the position you are in. Things could be a lot worse.

I live in Texas. Paid sick leave is not a legal requirement in this state. It is a benefit provided at the sole discretion of the company. And they can provide it however they want to.

They are not required to pay you when you are sick. So stop your griping and just live with the rules.
This "not fair" crap is for kids, not people who work. Be thankful that you CAN earn sick leave and are not one of the people who doesn't get paid if you get sick.
