I had wmconnect (Netscape),l looked at some others --unclear wether they support vista, or have local access numbers, or I'll need to get a nic card, or one time charges, etc. Any suggestions, or know any good reliable deals?

The technology is the same worldwide. No matter if it is Dial-up
DSL
Cable.
Your operating System has nothing to do with it.
You just need to decide from the Internet Service Providers in your area. You need to decide the type of connection you desire, and you can live with.
Next after you decide then contact all of them in your area.
Be sure to ask if they have any deals for new clients.
Remember Cable is the best and the most expensive, then followed by DSL a little cheaper followed by Dial=up.

i would like to add to Don M's answer & say that dsl has come a long way & isn't that slow anymore. i've used both and couldn't see any difference. if it's cheaper go for it.
