To be fair, you weren't very clear in the first part of the post, I thought you were expecting to give them away too.

Try fostering -- people in the military do that for their pets when they're stationed overseas. You pay for the food and vet care, but the dogs stay with someone till you can get them back--but you also have to put a certain time limit on it too so the other person doesn't feel like you've just abandoned them with the foster home.

Where are you moving to?

Usually if moving to a new place you have options. Sometimes the landlord will accept a pet deposit or will accept pets on a special circumstances. Speak with them and find out if there is anything you can do. If it were me, I woudn't move anywhere that wouldn't let me keep my pets.

If you are moving to a residential facility, or it's your parents decision then I'm afraid your options are limited. Try calling a local animal rescue in your area. You can find them on petfinder.org. Most will help you find new homes for your pets. The local SPCA might be an option but find out about their policies in regards to putting animals down.

If you just meant you need someone to take care of them while you are packing and taking your stuff outside (and the reverse in the new house), and you can't get a kennel, you need to find a friend to babysit them. (Sorry for thinking you are getting rid of your animals--read your question again--it really wasn't that clear--'I don't want to get rid of them' sounds like the excuse everyone makes before they do it).

If you can't get a friend to watch them, clear out one room completely, throw something in there for them to lay on, chew on, and drink from. Tape a cardboard box to the door (so they don't destroy the paint) and lock them in. They'll scratch, they'll bark, and then they'll lay down and wait for you to get them.

I'll leave the other answer up in case someone else needs it:

Yeah, don't move. You need to come up with a plan that includes your dogs. If you really need to abandon them, you need to find homes to abandon them in where they will be loved.

Either that or take them out back and shoot them--if you think they are just extra crap you don't want to pack, you shouldn't mind that too much.

I'm being mean because I hope that knowing that some people think like me may guilt you into doing the right thing. You can find a place to live with your dogs if you really want to. Keep trying. But try like it really matters!

I would start with my circle of friends and branch out from there. It will make it alot easier on the animals and you if they were to go to someone familiar. I know how heartbreaking losing the ones you love can be. I strongly reccomend that you see if there is someone who knows the animals that may be willing to take them.

dang, people are so rude here...

i would run them in the paper.. i'd hate to give up my pet.. but you're going to want them to have a good home right?

so i'd put in ad in the paper- put how old they r and what kind and how long you've had them and any good points about them. Some older people are looking for older pet companions.

You should have thought of that before you took the new place. You are insensitive and cruel...you don't deserve pets. I had two dogs that were my first and foremost concern. I even worked 11-7 to be home during the day with them. Sadly, one passed on four years ago, but my other dog is still with me......she's 17years old and deaf. I would live in the woods with her before moving to a place that doesn't allow dogs. Shame on you.

I agree with the people above me. There has to be one place where they will take the poor little pups. Why would you want to get rid of them? I mean, you really need to either give them to a friend or family member where you can visit every once in a while or keep them. Please don't put them in a shelter. Some of them that say Non Kill Shelter actually do kill there pets. So don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People like you make me angry. When you get a pet, they are for life. You are their guardian. Find a place to live where you can keep the animals. They are your responsibility.

I would think that if you aren't able to keep your dogs maybe find a friend that can take them, or find a rescue group.
