You probably have, but it still makes me laugh.

A very self-important college freshman was attending a recent football game. He took it upon himself to explain to a senior citizen sitting next to him why it was impossible for the older generation to understand his generation.

"You grew up in a different world, actually an almost primitive one," the student said, loud enough for many of those nearby to hear.

"The young people of today grew up with television, jet planes, space
travel, man walking on the moon, our spaceships have visited Mars. We have nuclear energy, electric and hydrogen cars, computers with light-speed processing, and....," pausing to take another drink of beer.

The Senior took advantage of the break in the student's litany and said, "You're right, son. We didn't have those things when we were young........so we invented them. Now, you arrogant little wise guy, what are you doing for the next generation?"

The applause was deafening

Very funny. Reminds me of the college student who was carrying his laptop computer and came across my listening to English language shortwave radio on my portable at the university one day. He opined that it looked very "low tech" to him. After I explained to him that we were standing in a parking lot in Southern Nevada and listening to a station broadcasting from Taipei, Taiwan while using a relay antenna in Florida to have the signal reach me, I pointed to his laptop and reminded him that I'd been in cyberspace since 1949. LOL!

Yes, I had read that before. Wouldn't it be nice if it really happened? Unfortunately in real life the obnoxious jerks seldom run into anyone who can shut them up.

I did witness one incident when justice was served. A woman in a flashy red car sped past me and a couple more cars on a narrow two-lane highway. It was in a no-passing zone and she had to be going 20 or 30 miles over the speed limit. About 5 miles down the road I passed her. A highway patrolman had her pulled over and was writing her a ticket!

I laughed all the way home.

That is a WONDERFUL story! I really laughed at it. I know what it is 'saying' too ... the kids today may 'think' we are 'primitive' but they don't 'think' about WHO 'invented or developed' all of the 'stuff' that they 'take for granted.'

I wanted to buy an computer in 1982. I went to Wang, and told the man I needed a 'hard drive' with 'at least one gigabyte' of storage, and at least 512mb RAM. He laughed at me and said that I'd need to buy a 'mainframe' ... now I have a 'flat screen monitor', a REMOTE mouse and keyboard (ergonomic) and a 250 gig hard drive and 1 gig RAM. I'm 'old' but I guess I was born 'way ahead of my time.'

An excellent timely response.
I recently asked some young adult boys if they read books; most did not and one responded that books took too much time. He'd rather play video games on the internet. Not a direct parallel but a similar thought process.
