Hello I just started using a Linksys wired router BEFSR41, i believe its the v.4 version, but i am not sure. And i was wondering how can I add a computer to this router. I currently have my downstairs computer using it, and it's working fine, but I can't get my upstairs computer to get an internet connection using the wired router. Whenever I try to get the upstairs computer to get connected, it asks me to dial a number and i don't know what to dial, i put in my phone number but it doesn't work. Do i have to connect something from the phone to the router. or somehting from the upstairs computer to the router.
Thank You so much
Johnny

go to Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Connections tab > check "Never dial a connection"
then apply / OK, then close and re-open

From your description it is not the router. You need to set up your computer with a new LAN connection. You did not say what operating system you have ( winNT, WInXP, Vista or Linux) so it is hard to be specific but if you go to the Setting window there should be a network connection wizard that will help you set it up. Make sure you have your network (CAT5/6) cable to the router installed and there should be a light on the NIC card where you plug the cable into your computer. Also if your cable is connected properly and your PC is powered on then there should be a light on the router showing the connection.

Oh yeah, the network connector on your computer will look like a large phone jack/connector, normal phone lines use RJ11 connectors and Ethernet uses RJ45. So you can't plug your network cable into your modem.
